Es Port
Platja des Port is situated at 13 kilometres from Campos and next to the village of Colònia de Sant Jordi, which is not anymore a centre of salt extraction, shelter for the fishers or meeting place for smugglers, but one of the most important touristic and residential areas of the island of Majorca since 1964. The name of this crowded sandy area comes from the situation, next to the natural port of Colònia de Sant Jordi. The port facilities were already used by the Phoenicians and Romans, as the shipwrecks found in the underwater surroundings demonstrate. Nowadays it is used for the mooring of boats, as a fish market and as starting point for the boats that make excursions to the archipelago of Cabrera (seven nautical miles). The beach is very crowded by residents and tourist visitors, and floating on the sea we have the same image, because there are lots of boats of any size anchoring here, during a stopover before going to Menorca or the archipelago of Cabrera. The navigators will find a ground of sand and seaweed at a depth which ranges between two and four metres, and the boats will be exposed to the winds of the second quadrant. Platja des Port can be easily reached by car. The private car can be left for free at a few metres from the beach and the nearest bus stop is at about 25 metres.
