S'Arenal Gran

S'Arenal Gros or s'Arenal Gran is situated next to the village of Portinatx, located between Cala des Portitxol and s'Arenal Petit –a sea promenade goes from this beach to the smaller one-.

The Punta Galera and de sa Torre are the sides of the entrance to Cala Portinatx, in the interior if which there are several small coves, and we are now describing the second one, which is also the biggest one of all its coastal corners. The external area of Cala Portinatx is an excellent place for sailing sports.

This cove is surrounded by touristy buildings and it is a large bay, the surface is covered with fine-grained white sand, with some pine trees, the slope is gentle (at 25 metres from the coast there is a depth of one metre), the ground is sandy except on the left side where there are rocks and the wind blows normally gently from the south, toward the sea.
These morphological characteristics make this coastal stretch very safe for children and elderly people, as well as for surface diving.

The accessibility by car is easy following the signs and the deviations. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. You can also reach this beach with the public transport. The nearest bus stop is located at one hectometre. From s'Arenal Gros you can go by boat toward Cala Xarraca and Cala Xucla.

These characteristics explain that the beach is very crowded by local visitors and tourists.

Municipality information Sant Joan de Labritja

The municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja, former Sant Joan Baptista, is situated in the northwest of Eivissa, and it includes the rural villages with their parishes, Sant Miquel de Balansat (the biggest village with an important touristy area, Port de Sant Miquel), Sant Llorenç de Balàfia (with the typical pitiusan houses with defence towers of Arab origin, considered national heritage), Sant Vicenç de sa Cala (you should visit the caves of Cuieram, of Carthaginian origin located at a height of 200 metres), as well as the village with the same name (administrative centre, the construction of the church finished in 1771 and it has an important touristy area, Portinatx).

The cliffy landscape of its coast is a characteristic, as well as the very small coves with crystal clear water hidden by the huge rocks. This area of 119,7 km2 has an enormous ecologic value, with very rare vegetation species, endemic plants and the nests of marine birds in the coastal area.

You should not leave Sant Joan de Labritja before visiting some of the big extension of rural character with the typical houses of traditional architecture, agricultural terraces and hundreds-year-old olive trees.

This territory is the less populated in Eivissa and it is characterized by the harmony between the quiet touristy activity and the well preserved, beautiful and magic landscape and natural setting.
The municipality has 18 beaches.
