Cala en Bosch also known as Cala'n Bosch

Cala'n Bosch or Cala en Bosch is situated at 12 kilometres from Ciutadella, located between Marina de Cala en Bosch and Punta de sa Guarda, as well as next to the villages of Cap d'Artrutx and Son Xoriguer. This beach is the first that the visitor will find in the south coast of Menorca, coming from west and next to Cap d'Artrutx (if the weather is good you can see the coast of Majorca from here). It is a u-shaped sea inlet, with fine-grained white sand, steep and abrupt sides with rocks which are not very high, on the top of which you will see some touristy buildings, it is exposed to the winds from the east-southeast-south-southwest-west, a gentle breeze, and it is one of the biggest coastal stretches of developed coves near Ciutadella. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good if the weather is good because the beach is very open. There is an area with buoys at 1,5 nautical miles where you are not allowed to anchor. There is the union of underwater electric cables between Menorca and Mallorca. On the right side there is a long and narrow entry which leads to an interior lake, now reconverted into Marina de Cala en Bosch. The big boats won't be able to enter this port because of the bridge over the sea inlet.

The accessibility by car is easy following the signs and the deviations. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. You can also reach this beach with the public transport.

When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards? instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks.

For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches.
This beach has received the 14001 environmental certification.

Municipality information Ciutadella

The municipality of Ciutadella de Menorca is situated at the westernmost end of this island, and it is very important for its population, for the picturesque port and for being the bishop see. The name is given by the Christian king Alfons III d'Aragó with the conquest of Menorca. Ciutadella comes from the Latin word civitatella, from the diminutive of civitas. The former inhabitants used to call it Jamma, Iamo, Iamona, Municipium Flavium Iamontarum or medina Minurka. The organizer of the most important aspects of the menorcan life was king Jaume II de Mallorca. In 1301 he started to establish a defence system (cavalry) and parish (union) or the money. The 16th and 17th centuries were characterized by the violent Turkish pirate attacks. It used to be the capital until the English occupation (1708) which moved to Maó in 1722. The 19th century was a demographic, economic and cultural wake up, whereas since the 20th century until nowadays, the tourism is leading the economy, although the traditional handcraft of shoes and jewellery are still important.

Its cultural variety includes the festival of the patron saint, Sant Joan (on the 23rd and 24th o June), internationally known for the show with the riders and horses, and you should visit the old town, with narrow streets and particular buildings that preserve the presence of different civilizations that populated Ciutadella, the prehistoric vestiges, as well as the defence tower and other interesting places.
The municipality has 24 beaches.
