Municipality information Campos

The municipality of Campos is situated in the southern and south-eastern region of Majorca (Migjorn). The name of Mozarab origin comes from the flat landscape surrounded by hills and adjacent to the sea. King Jaume II named it town in 1300.

As the etymology indicates, Campos is a municipality which is quite flat (ses Gometes, 121 metres). There is an important system of dunes in es Trenc, which separates the second most important wetland of Majorca, es Salobrar (330 hectares of extension), from the Mediterranean Sea. In 1984 this area (1492 hectares) was declared as Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès because of the scientific richness and the landscape. The farming and the dairy activity used to predominate in Campos until the seventies of the 20th century, when the fabrication, commerce and transport of construction materials began to lead the economy.

The cycling routes allow to access the most important arquitecture and landscape corners of the village and the rest of the municipality. You should visit Balnerari de la Font Santa to take a bath in the only thermal springs of the Balearic archipelago. The clorurosodic water of 38,7°C helps to treat rheumatism, neuralgias, paralyses, visceral obstructions, osteoarthritis, nephritis and skin diseases.

On Thursdays and Saturdays you are recommended to visit the street market to know the typical products, the people and the habits. Here you can also find the ingredients for the typical dish, the cazuela de caza.
The municipality has 8 beaches.
