S'Arenalet des Verger also known as S'Arenalet d'Aubarca

S'Arenalet des Verger o d'Aubarca is situated at 12,5 kilometres from Artà. It is one of the less frequented beaches of Majorca and only visited by the most dared local visitors for the following reasons.

This beautiful virgin coast belongs to the possessió de Aubarca, which comes from the Arab al-Bascat which means banks, where we can find Torre des Matzoc or d'Aubarca or de sa Falconera or de Sant Ferran, built in 1751, in order to watch and defend, circular, and located at 67 metres above the sea level.

This enormous white sandy area has still the presence of the marine turtle and a rocky mound in the central part of the wide coast.

The marine and underwater conditions are good for anchoring boats but you will have to be careful because it might be dangerous due to the fact that the beach is very open to the winds that blow from the northwest-north-northeast. The ground is sandy, extensive and not very deep. The most difficult navigation point is es Faralló de s'Aubarca, at 0,4 nautical miles from the coast, between Cap des Freu and Cap de Ferrutx. The nearest port facilities are located at Club Nàutic de Cala Ratjada, at 13,5 nautical miles.

The accessibility by car is complicated. You will have to cross some private fincas. This is why you are recommended to go on foot or by bicycle and protect from the sun. This is the easier way to pass the closed barrier which you will find on the last 5,5 kilometres that take to this sandy area.

Municipality information Artà

The municipality of Artà is situated at the north-eastern end of Majorca and it has one of the minor densities of population (43 inhabitants per square kilometre).

The name might be given by the Arab word Yartan, which was the name of this area during the Islamic period. The Christian king Jaume I who conquered Majorca (1229) called it Almudaina d'Artano, and it was named town in 1230 with the arrival of the premonstratense monks.

The landscape is formed by a wide central valley, surrounded by the mountains and a coastal area with system of dunes and some rocky areas. It has the highest hills of Serres de Llevant (sa Talaia Freda, 562 metres, and Puig d'en Ferrutx, 519 metres) and the Torrent de na Borges, in the mouth of which you can find Estany del Bisbe, which is two kilometres long.

There are endemic plants in danger of extinction of the Balearic archipelago, like holm oaks, bushes, pine woods and scrubland in this municipality. And some protected species like the black vulture, the fishing eagle or the kite fly over this place.

The tourism and the construction replaced the agricultural activity and the industry in the seventies of the 20th century. This municipality has the Teatre d'Artà (with a capacity for 460 people) since 2001, one of the best infrastructures of Majorca.

Its cultural variety includes Talaiot de ses Païses, Monestir de Bellpuig, Església de Sant Salvador, Església parroquial, Ermita de Betlem, edificio señorial de na Batlessa, where the painter Miquel Barceló has his graphic works.
The municipality has 14 beaches.
