Who sponsors

This project is sponsored by the Direcció General d'Emergències of the Conselleria de Interior del Govern de les Illes Balears, and is managed through the collaboration of all the municipalities in the Balearic Islands. The Conselleria de Turisme del Govern de les Illes Balears is in charge of publicising the website to make it known to visitors and residents alike.

The singularity of the beaches in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands compared to the rest of Spain and their frequent use for sports and leisure activities requires the establishment of a series of safety and protection measures that complement and expand existing standards.

In this sense and in addition to other activities carried out by the Direcció General d'Emergències in the area of safe beaches, this website is considered an essential tool for informing and coordinating users, municipalities, rescue services and the Direcció General d'Emergències.

Exclusive services for the collaborating municipalities

Apart from the web site with public access, has an administration tool, backoffice, which allows the staff of the city councils which are responsible for the security on the beaches of the municipality to update the bathing conditions (even on directly on the beach with a PDA or a mobile phone with GPRS or UMTS connection). This tool makes it also easier to notify Direcció General d'Emergències the incidences on the beaches.

Web design based on standard

The website is developed using the XHTML standards for the content and CSS for the appearance, following the recommendations of the organization. World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This new design paradigma offers, in contrast to the traditional web design characterized by the use of tables for the visual structure of the web (and the application of the HTML and CSS standards), the following advantages:

  • It improves the separation between appearance and content, so that it is easier to adapt to other dispositives.
  • It reduces the size of the web documents, so that the bandwidth can be smaller and charging is faster.
  • It increases the relevance for the search engines, because the XHTML documents contain more information and less codes.
  • It increases the compatibility with other navigating programs, both current and future..
  • It makes upkeeping and updating of the structure and the appearance of the web easier.
